Germany's northernmost polo tournament - Berenberg Polo Masters Sylt
When one of the most exclusive sports in the world meets the glamorous North Sea island - it can only be one of the two polo tournaments of the Polo Club Sylt.
Last week the time had come: the Berenberg Polomasters in Keitum took place for the 22nd time. After the Julius Baer Polo Beach Cup, which traditionally takes place on the weekend of Pentecost, had to be canceled this year, the tournament took place (almost) in camera. The invited guests had the opportunity to experience the matches right on the edge of the field, or to bridge the breaks in the rain in the lovingly designed tent with first-class cuisine.
In addition to all the hustle and bustle on the sidelines, there is of course also something to see on the field. The 6 teams started the tournament on Wednesdays, but had to take a weather-related break the following day. The program for Friday and Saturday was tightened a bit so that the matches for the places could take place as planned for the final day on Sunday.
The moderation by Jan-Erik Franck also makes it easy for polo novices to follow the course of the game. Short excursions into the rules and regulations prepare the audience for the next tournaments and give a little insight into the complex rules of polo.
The Sylt polo club has its eyes firmly on the tournaments for next year and hopes to start the polo season with the Julius Baer Polo Beach Club at Pentecost 2022. Then again with spectators, because they ultimately create the atmosphere on the sidelines.
