The thing with the microplastics

Nowadays synthetic fibers in the form of polyester saddle pads and fleece blankets are unfortunately ubiquitous in equestrian sports. Inexpensive production in the Far East enables sales prices that tempt you to wear a suitable outfit in every color. The horse's well-being and environmental awareness are neglected.

What many do not know - these products, especially fleece blankets, are true micoplastic spinning - with each wash cycle, microplastics are released into the water. The older the product gets and the more worn it is, the more particles dissolve. The microfibers find their way into seas, rivers and ultimately into our drinking water. Due to its surface properties, microplastics act like a magnet for pollutants and accumulate them. Sea creatures ingest these particles and then carry the plastic and these pollutants within them. * ACS Publications 

Les Pionniers is therefore using tried and tested, natural fibers such as merino wool in the form of Maybach blankets, cotton, cotton terrycloth and alpaca wool in products from L'Evoine and wool felt saddlecloths from Manifattura Valor. These products are not only skin-friendly, but also naturally antibacterial, breathable and durable.

The well-known Terry Blanket from L'Evoine, for example, serves as a sweat blanket and is made of 100% cotton terry. It can be washed safely at 60 degrees. In summer it has a cooling effect on the horse when soaked in cold water and in winter - unlike a fleece blanket - it absorbs sweat after training.
